I don't know about you, but things in Florida don't seem to have the afterglow of Recovery so many in the media and at the White House are heralding. Customer after customer trudges in, day after day, and to a man they all say the same thing: "Things Are Getting Worse." I"m not making this up.
As for me, I have to join in the chorus. As I've told you before, three years ago somebody threw a light switch and New Home Construction came to a screeching halt. Within weeks, every tradesman for miles around was out of work (many of whom, by the way, are not eligible for unemployment benefits nor do they figure in the numbers of the "unemployed"). They did what they had to do. They moved to where there were rumors of work; New Orleans and Texas, cleaning up after hurricanes.
As they left, they took much needed business away from all of our service businesses in the area. One by one, these businesses closed. For good. Automotive Repair Shops, Restaurants, Dry Cleaners, Hair Salons, Cinemas, even Go Cart Tracks and Driving Ranges. Gone. The professional service companies followed. Insurance Agencies, Real Estate Companies, Financial Planners, Banks, even some Lawyers closed up shop. Now stalwart companies like Dunkin' Donuts and Circuit City and other retailers like Pharmacies, Filling Stations and Convenience Stores are shuttering, unable to make overhead, let alone profit.
Let me give you some idea of how things are. On October 21, 2006, my barbershop did 52 haircuts. This year, same date, 14. The numbers for the rest of the days stack up the same. I've laid off all my other barbers, except for Dan who works with me on Saturday.
In Florida, there is no recovery.
Yet, President Obama came to town yesterday, touting the billions of dollars he and his henchmen want to spend to beef up the electric grid. He didn't say anything about how many jobs such a move will create, and I suppose that's because the number of jobs to be created rhymes with "hero," something he isn't and will never be. This president has an agenda that involves destroying the Free Market System, pouring as much Private Enterprise under the control of the Federal Government, and systematically destroying the United States as we have known it for over 200 years. Unfortunately for him, no such "change" will ever get off the ground. Mis- and Dis-information aside, President Obama is one frightened man; his allies in his inner circle and the Congress are desperate.
So they engage in deceit and outright lies in order to convince we stupid Americans that all is well in the world.
He's finding that we're not so stupid after all.
Governor Christ of Florida refused to be seen in the company of the president on his visit. Why? Because he is a brilliant man who wants to be a United States Senator and knows that any alignment--real or imagined--with President Obama would be political suicide, plain and simple. The People of Florida are able to see President Obama for the un-American, un-Patriotic, un-Christian and disloyal "leader" that he is, and will not be easily lied to.
So let the mainstream media continue its tireless praise of President Obama and the imagined economic recovery and its tiresome tirade against President Bush, who they blame for all of our economic woes and will for the next century. Luckily, we Americans won't have to wait that long for real Recovery. In just over a year, President Obama will be hard pressed to find an ally in the United States Congress for any of his Marxist, Communist, Socialist and Anti-Constitutional agenda.
Eighteen months from now, I'll be telling you how great business is going; for me and for my customers. The ones who are still on their feet then anyway.
